How to get Bells

Below, we present you a collection of our favorite Animal Crossing: New Horizons Bell making methods. They range from very profitablebut work-intensive, to very easy and fastdaily methods that will give you a little bit of pocket money on a regular basis. Mix and match these methodsso that you don't get bored by repeating the same tasks over and over again, as having fun is the most important aspect of any game!

Note:Some of the below-described methods can be performed once per day. They do not give you too much profit butare very quick and very easy to do. Repeating them regularly will provide you with some quick pocket money on a daily basis. Also, these daily methods can be used as a leap away from more tedious, grindy methods as they are quite relaxing and surprisingly satisfying to perform.

Farming Tarantulas

We are starting with a big one this time. A single Tarantula sells for 8000 Bells and, with this method, you will be able to fill whole inventory with them (which amounts to about 300000 Bells). Tarantulas spawn on all islands, but only in the evening, and they like open areas (which is great, because you can turn a whole island into an "open area" by clearing it out).Beware, as they are aggressive and will try to knock you out if you don't catch them quickly enough. If you want to try your strength in Farming Tarantulas, please follow these instructions:

  1. Clean up your inventory to maximize your carry space; the only things you need are Food (necessary for the island clearing), Shovel, Net, Ladder, Vaulting Pole, and an Axe.
  2. Make sure that it is past 7 pm; Tarantulas will not spawn if it is earlier in the day.
  3. To start the Tarantula Farm, the first thing you have to do is buy the Nook Miles Ticket (it will cost you 2000 Nook Miles). With ticket in hand, head to a deserted island from your airport.
  4. Eat fruits that you have taken with you and start the gardening; all trees and rocks on the island have to be cleared out (this is why you need an Axe,a Shovel, and some Fruit - if you have forgotten fruits, there is a good chance that they will drop from trees; just start your clearing duty from them). Moreover, you'll have to pick up every Flower and every Weed - in other words, you'll want to turn the island into a barren plain.Islands have multiple elevated levels, use your Ladder to reach them - you want every level cleared.
  5. After clearing is done, it is time to clear up your inventory (again). To do this, head to a faraway corner of the island, preferably located on a beach, and drop all redundant stuff.
  6. The number of Bugs that can spawn on an island is limited; this is why you should clear all the other bugs to make space for more Tarantulas to spawn. Remember to check every corner, including rocks, beaches and shallow waters around the shore (Roaches and Water Bugs like to spawn there). Bug-clearing will have to be repeated from time to time, as other bugs will continue to spawn.
  7. Your island is ready, you should be seeing the Tarantulas spawn by now. Follow further instructions to catch them.
  8. While you have your Net out, hold A. This will make you move slowly and enable you to creep up to the Tarantula without making it too angry. Moreover, aiming with the Net is easier when you move slowly.
  9. When the Tarantula notices you, stop moving and wait for it to lose interest in you; You can easily see if a Tarantula is on alert - it willshake its abdomen andhave its legs up (when you notice it doing this, it is time to wait). You will have to wait multiple times while on the approach, as a Tarantula will start shaking each timeyou take a few steps towards it.
  10. When your inventory is full of caught Tarantulas, it is time to head back to the Nook's Cranny and sell them all in the shop. A single run should earn you something around 300k Animal Crossing: New Horizons Bells.

Note:Not all islands are suitable for Farming Tarantulas; if you get unlucky and roll an island that will not spawn them, all you need to do is buy another Ticket and try the next island (this should not happen too often, however).

Summary -As far as Farmingin Animal Crossing: New Horizons goes, there is nothing better than catching a bunch of giant spiders. Prepare your own Tarantula Farm and make ~1/3 of a million Bells in one go. All you need is 2k Nook Miles, a stack of Fruits and some basic equipment.

Native Fruits Trading

This is a very simple method that will allow you to make some quick Bells by transporting Fruits from one island to another. It is based on the fact that each Island in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons has its "Native" Fruit. Native Fruits are easier to grow and therefore cheaper to buy. In fact, they are so much cheaper, that the Buy price of afruit, that is native to one island,is lower than the Sell price of the same fruit, on another island where the said fruit is not a "Native" one. In other words, you can buy your Island's Native Fruits and sell them on another island, that has a different set of Native Fruits, at a profit. Here is how to do this in a few simple steps:

  1. Prepare around 160k Bells; they will be needed to buy the first bunch of your island's Native Fruits.
  2. Clear out your inventory. You will not need any items for this - store them all in a safe place, because the more inventory slots you have the better.
  3. Find another Player, whoseisland has a different Nativ Fruit than yours (just ask around, one of your friends is bound to have a suitable island).
  4. Fill your inventory with your Island's Native Fruits. They should cost 400 Bells a pop. This will take some time and will be click-intensiveas there is no way of buying more than 5 at once. To fill the whole inventory, you will need the previously-mentioned sum of 160000 Bells.
  5. Pay the chosen Player a visit and sell all your Fruits in their Nook's Cranny. The Sell price should be 500 Bells, which means that you will make a 100 Bell profit on each of the Fruits. Selling the whole inventory will net you a 40000 Bells profit.
  6. Proceed to buy a Fruit that is native to your friend's Island to sell it on yours. This will increase your profits, as you will eliminate the "empty" run back to your island.
  7. Return to your Island and sell the Fruits you have bought on your friend's island; This will earn you a bit less than 40k because you will have a Bell Bag in your inventory.
  8. Repeat steps 1 to 7 as many times as you want! The prices will not change, no matter how many Fruits you buy and sell. After you get the hang of it (the buying and selling, mainly), you should be able to complete a run in about 15 minutes. A complete run will earn you ~78000 Bells, which amounts to ~312000 Bells per hour.

The main downside of this method is the fact that there is a lot of clicking and running around involved. If you are the type of Player who hates tedious tasks, we recommend you to skip this one, for your sanity's sake.

Note:Yes, it is much more profitable to collect your Island's Native Fruits from trees and sell those, but Fruits need time to grow, which means that making continuous "trade runs" based on your farmed fruitsis impossible. However, picking up your grown fruits to sell them on your friend's island is a great way of making the 160k Bells needed to kick start the above-mentioned method (you can also erkhmmm... borrow the fruits from your friend's trees).

Summary -Animal Crossing: New Horizons has some Supply and Demand relations built into it. Take advantage of them and make money out of transporting Fruits from one island to another. All you will need at the start is a rather minor investment of 160k Bells.

Daily Glowing Spot / Planting Money Trees

Each day, a random spot on your island will start glowing. If curiosity is in your nature and you decide to investigate this phenomenon, you will be rewarded with 1000 Bells. All you need to do is dig a hole in the glowing spot. However, the method does not stop here, as there is a way of making much more than just 1000 Bells out of this. Here is how it works:

  1. Find a Daily Glowing Spot and Dig out the money bag that contains 1000 Bells.
  2. A glowing Hole will remain in a spot from which you've dug up your daily 1000 Bells; Planting Bells in this hole will result in a money tree spawning.
  3. You will get triple the amount of the Bells you have planted after a few days (this means that planting 10k Bells will result in a 20k Bells profit), so we recommendyou to plant as many Bells as the game allows you to.
  4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 on a daily basis and Bells will steadily flow into your pocket.

Note: This method's profitability is based on the fact that it can be repeated daily with minimal time investment. It will not make you rich instantly, but the number of Bells gained with it will grow steadily over time.

Summary - There is a treasure hidden on your Island; if you add to it instead of just digging it out and putting it into your pocket, you will get much more after a few days.

Daily Money Rocks

Each day, one Rock in your town will transform into a so-called Money Rock. Hitting such Rock with an Axe or aShovel will result in Bells popping out of it. Farming these rocks is an easy method of making some additional daily profit, but it will not make you rich as you are limited to one such Rock per day, and the number of Bells that comes out of a single Rock is limited. To farm the Money Rock efficiently, please follow these simple steps:

  1. Run up to the Money Rock, then turn around and dig up two holes (so that you are now between a Rock and two Holes). Doing this will ensure that you stay put after you hit the rock with your Shovel and will also allow you to shake more Bells out of each Money Rock.
  2. Hit the Money Rock repeatedly until Bells stop coming out of it; the faster you hit it, the more Bells it will spawn.
  3. Collect your daily pocket money from the ground.

While not too profitable at first glance, this method is still worth trying out because free Bells are always welcome. Moreover, if you make a habit out of farming Money Rocks, you will make a substantial number of Bells in the long run.

Note:Each villager will get a different Money Rock every day. This means that the number of Rocks will always be equal to the number of players inhabiting the Island.

Summary -There is money under that Rock, all you need to do is dig it out. Harvesting Money Rocks is a good way of making some additional Bells on a daily basis.

Fishing

The favorite in-game activity of many can be surprisingly profitable in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Dust off your trusty fishing rod, head to the nearest beach, sit down, cast your fishing rod, relax, and wait for a fish to take the bait. After you catch a bunch of fish, head to your Nook's Cranny and sell them to Nooklings; your profit will mostly depend on the number and the kind of fish you have managed to catch.

This sounds as tedious as some of the above-mentioned methods, but there is something relaxing about fishing... you don't have to click rapidly,or move around, or even pay attention (at least not all the time). If you are looking for a relaxing way of spending time in-gamethat will also make you some Bells, Fishing is definitely a great choice.

You can also check out our in-depth comparison of the most expensive Fish in New Horizons for more details on how to make money off fishing.

Note:There is no limit on how many fish you can catch daily, so you could fish all day, potentially...

Summary -Fish sell for quite a good price, which means that catching them can be a good source of Bells, especially if you like fishing.

Crafting and Selling the "Hot Items"

This method is based on the fact that the selling price of a random item in your Nook's Cranny gets doubled each day, for 24 hours. The doubled price will often be higher than the combined price of materials required for crafting the said Item. Here is how you can easily profit from this:

  1. The Nooklings from your Nook's Cranny declare a new "Hot Item" each day. An Item that is declared "Hot" sells for double the normal price until the next "Hot" item is declared.
  2. After a new Item is declared, check how much it costs to craft it and compare the crafting cost to the selling price. If the selling price is higher, craft as much "Hot Items" as you can and sell them at a profit.
  3. Check which Item was declared "Hot" each day so you don't miss a good occasion to make some Bells.

Note1:Not every "Hot Item" is worth making, even if it sells for double the normal price. This is why it is very important that youcalculate your profit margin before crafting. The higher the margin, the more Bells you will make.

Note2:Mass Crafting can get very tedious very quickly; if you get bored easily, do this method only if the profit margin of the "Hot Item" of the day is exceptionally high. Otherwise, you will be much better off with one of the other featured methods.

Summary -Each Day a random Item sells for double the price. Craft the item and make a profit from selling it.

Selling Duplicate Fossils

There are two things to consider here; 1 - Each Fossil has to be donated to the museum just once. 2 - Fossils that you get during your adventures in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons are random. This means that you are bound to get multiple duplicates that can be sold for a decent number of Bells. Of course, this method is not too reliablebecause of the fossils' rarity, but you will still make some additional Bells (especially if you already have some duplicate Fossils lying around).

Note:You will find Fossils naturally by playing the game, which means that this method is free money, essentially.

Summary -Museum is not interested in exhibiting more than one specimen of each of the Fossils, which means that you are free to sell any duplicates you find.

*Unless you go out of your way and farm Fossils; then Quickness will be much lower, but your Profits will rise.

Bell-Making Tips and Tricks

Here are some tips & tricks that will help you make a little bit extra profit on a daily basis.

  • Take advantage of daily "events" (Money Rocks and Glowing Spots). They might not give you too many Bellsbutare quick to complete, which means that they actually offer a very good Bells/minute ratio.

  • If C.J. visits your town, dust off your fishing rod! He will buy fish at a very good price, so fishing while he hangs around is a great way of making bonus Bells.

  • Deserted Islands will sometimes contain Fruit Trees you don't currently have on your own Island. You can dig out such Trees and plant them in your town, which is much faster than just planting a tree with the fruit.

  • Manage your inventory space. If you go on an adventure, always have as much free inventory spaces as possible; take just the essentials and store everything else in your storage. Doing this will result in higher profits, as the more new stuff you can carry, the more Bells you can make from selling the said new Stuff.

  • You will get some interest out of your Bells stored in the ABD. If you already have a healthy amount of money, putting some of it into your savings account is a great idea.
